Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Our laboratory is part of the Vaccine Informatics Division at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (NEKKEN) at Nagasaki University. Together with industry partners we are looking for innovative ways to design next generation vaccines targeting emerging and neglected tropical diseases.
We are dedicated to developing computational methods used in creating vaccine designs that elicit optimal immunological responses leading to the development of broadly protective and therapeutic vaccines.
We are part of an international and cross-disciplinary organization consisting of a diverse mix of bioinformaticians, virologists, parasitologists, immunologists and clinicians.
Work content and job description
As a postdoc in our laboratory, you will:
•Conduct analysis of biological processes in connection to infectious disease or topics related to the development of preventative and therapeutic treatments such as vaccines.
•Establish frameworks integrating high-quality, biological and pre-clinical datasets and noisy public data to derive biological insights. Within our team we are working with multi-omics data types that might be derived from genomics, transcriptomics or proteomics experiments.
•Evaluate results and prepare reports and presentations describing appropriate methodologies and findings for colleagues and external collaborators.
•Facilitate communication and collaboration between various research groups working on different infectious diseases.

Description
•You hold a doctorate in bioinformatics, virology, immunology, epidemiology, or a related field.
•Experience with programming and code development in Python or R as well as using data analysis and numerical tools such as scikit-learn, numpy, pandas/polars, matplotlib/seaborn/plotly.
•Proficiency or interest in learning common software management tools: git, cloud infrastructure, etc.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (the working language of the research group).
•The ability to work independently and with others with various scientific and technological backgrounds.
