Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The Department of English at Tokyo Woman’s Christian University is seeking a Tokunin Contract Teacher (specially appointed contract position) (lecturer, associate professor, or professor) to begin on 1 April 2025.
Tokyo Woman’s Christian University asks our teachers to fulfill the following requirements:
- understand our school philosophy and our diploma and curriculum policy and have expertise in the required field, teaching ability, and research competency that promote higher education for women on the basis of liberal arts and Christianity;
- understand our department’s admission policy, educate students to achieve the goals that are set in the policy, and willingly engage in academic activities in the field required in the Department of English;
- make positive contributions to the advancement of the educational aims of the department;
- teach classes for general education, support our liberal arts education, and make contributions to the all-round education of our students.
Work content and job description
(1) Teach, in principle, five classes per semester from those listed below:
Women’s Empowerment and Leadership, English Globalisation and Empowerment, Introductory Seminar for Translation, Thematic Studies on English for Professional Use, Introductory Seminar for Professional English, Research Project for Study Abroad, *Third-year Seminar I/II, Senior Seminar I/II, Professional English Seminar A/B*, and other classes (classes marked with * to be taught mainly in English). Might teach Classes for General Education and classes for the Graduate School;
(2) as a member of the faculty meeting, do various administrative jobs; and
(3) jobs related to the entrance exam.

An MA in hand in one of the above fields or in related fields.
Description
(1) an MA in hand in one of the above fields or in related fields;
(2) experience working in an organisation with an international reach or an international company is desirable;
(3) experience in teaching Japanese students in university classes (particularly related to giving presentations in English and supervising graduation theses);
(4) the ability to conduct English-related duties: and
(5) a sufficient level of Japanese to conduct administrative duties in Japanese

Screening:
The first screening will consist of a documentary examination. The second screening is an interview. Applicants who pass the first screening will be notified about the interview. Interviewees may be asked to present a short demonstration lesson on the subject we assign.
