Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
We study deep-sea biodiversity and how it is affected by environmental change. There is a position available to a Researcher or Researcher(II) who will conduct taxonomic studies of marine invertebrates to understand their hidden biodiversity and advanced studies to understand the natural history of marine life or the structure of marine ecosystems.

The successful candidate may conduct:
(1) Research activities to collect biological samples, including a ship expedition;
(2) Taxonomic studies of the collected biological samples;
(3) Molecular evolution, ecology, and other relevant research using the collected biological samples;
and
(4) Management of general tasks, such as sample curation and management of research equipment.

Education and Degree Requirements
Ph.D. / Doctor
Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in a closely related field of research or technology development.
Work experience
The researcher should have a background in marine biology, systematics, morphology, molecular evolution, ecology, evolutionary developmental biology, genetics, etc.
The following expertise, experience, and research accomplishments are desirable:
・Completion of biological sampling on a ship expedition;
・Performance of taxonomic studies, including the description of new species; and
・Experience and knowledge of molecular evolution, ecology, evolutionary developmental biology, genetics, and related research in marine invertebrates.

Period of employment is from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2030.
*Effective date of employment is negotiable.
*One contract period is a maximum of five fiscal years. The contract period will not be renewed.
*On reaching the age of 65 during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change.
*After undergoing an evaluation during the period of employment, the contract may be modified to one without termination (termination of employment would be at the end of the fiscal year in which the employee reaches the age of 60, or the age of 65 if the employee is rehired after their retirement).
