Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The Kanazawa University Cancer Research Institute (KU-CRI) bears the distinction of being the only institute solely focused on cancer research amongst the Research Institutes and Centers of Japan National Universities. Its mission is to promote basic research focusing on the “mechanisms of cancer malignancy” so to develop innovative diagnostics and treatments that utilize novel molecules and models, and cultivate professionals who will lead future cancer research and healthcare. In particular, the institute focuses on " understanding of the mechanisms of basic cellular functions," "interdisciplinary research with innovative technology," and "clinical data science", with the goals of (1) discovering new principles of life, (2) understanding the nature of cancer and (3) developing diagnostic and therapeutic methods for cancer. As a core research institute involved in cancer research in Japan, it also promotes joint use and collaborative research.

Work content and job description
We are inviting applications for one professor (chief of the field). The candidate will be required to promote cutting-edge research and development in the research filed of clinical data science which may cover integrative analysis of multi-layered biomolecular data such as genome/epigenome, proteomics, transcriptomics or metabolomics development of algorithms or software to effectively process and analyze clinical/biological data, or large-scale data analysis using artificial intelligence or machine learning. Through such activities the candidate is expected to contribute to elucidate the mechanism of cancer and develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic methods. In addition, we are looking for candidates who are willing to take advantage of the fact that this research field is located on the Takara-machi Campus, where the Graduate School of Medical Sciences and the affiliated hospital are located, in an aim to build and develop a new research system closely related to clinical practice. Furthermore, you will be involved in pre-graduate and post-graduate professional education in the School of Medicine.
