Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    The University of Tsukuba, Institute of Library, Information and Media Science is looking for a specially appointed assistant professor who will conduct education and research in the field of text media.

  • Work content and job description

    * The expected research of successful candidate will include conduct interdisciplinary and international research activities in addition to material studies in Japanese bibliography and text media with digital technology.

    * The successful candidate is expected to teach graduate courses at the Master's Program in Informatics, Degree Programs in Comprehensive Human Sciences, Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Sciences, such as "Cultural History of Library and Media," related research seminar courses, etc., and to supervise graduate students.
    * The candidate is expected to teach undergraduate courses at the College of Knowledge and Library Sciences, School of Informatics, such as "Japanese Books and Text Media", "Interpretation of the Text", related research seminar courses, etc., and to supervise undergraduate students.
    * Applicants are required to teach classes in both Japanese and English.

    * Administrative duties include committees, publicity, admission, etc.

  • Annual Salary : 5 million yen ~ 7 million yen

    Working conditions will be determined according to the university regulations
    (About 6,000,000 JPY/Year at the age of 31 in case of working full-time continuously after getting the degree of doctor).

    Holidays : Every Saturday and Sunday, National holidays, New Year's holiday season (12/29-1/3)

    Overtime and other explanations : Based on agreement, either discretionary labor system for professional work (the working hours for a day are deemed as 7 hours 45 minutes) or fixed working hours system (including variable working hours system) will be applied.

    Ph.D. / Doctor

    Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field by the time of the appointment

  • Work experience

    * Sufficient capability to conduct research in relevant fields
    * At least two publications (peer-reviewed academic journal papers, peer-reviewed international conference papers, academic books) in the last 5 years (however, even if the publication is five years or eariler, it is possible to include only one case that can be regarded as particularly important.)
    * The enthusiasm to work on education, research and university management; interdisciplinary collaborative research is highly encouraged.
