Job description

  • Background of the recruitment and description of the project

    Our laboratory is part of the Vaccine Informatics Division at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (NEKKEN) at Nagasaki University.
    Together with industry partners we are looking for innovative ways to design the next generation of vaccines targeting emerging and neglected tropical diseases.
    We are dedicated to developing software solutions that leads to effective vaccine designs that elicit optimal response in patients and can lead to the development of broadly protective and therapeutic vaccines.
    We are part of an international and cross-disciplinary organization consisting of a diverse mix of bioinformaticians, virologists, parasitologists, immunologists and clinicians.

  • Work content and job description

    As an assistant professor in our laboratory, you will:
    •Perform experimental work in our laboratory aimed at validating the effectiveness of our vaccine design.
    •Conduct analysis of biological processes in connection to infectious disease or topics related to the development   
    of preventative and therapeutic treatments such as vaccines.
    •Establish frameworks integrating high-quality, biological and pre-clinical datasets and noisy public data to derive
    biological insights. Within our team we are working with multi-omics data types that might be derived from
    genomics, transcriptomics or proteomics experiments.
    •Evaluate results and prepare reports and presentations describing appropriate methodologies and findings for
    colleagues and external collaborators.
    •Facilitate communication and collaboration between the various research groups working in diverse fields and
    different infectious diseases.

Wages

  • Annual Salary : 4 million yen ~ 6 million yen

    Salary will depend on previous work experience.
    In addition to the above, various allowances will be paid in accordance with the regulations.

Working hours

  • Working hours :08:45-17:30

    Break time :12:00-13:00

    Overtime and other explanations : Deemed working day of 7 hours 45 minutes for discretionary work. Working hours and breaks are listed as standard hours for your reference.

    Ph.D. / Doctor

  • Description

    You hold a doctorate in virology, immunology, epidemiology, or a related field.
    •Experience in experimental work related to immunological assays such as, ELISpot, flow cytometry analysis, cell culture experiments as well as basic molecular biology techniques.
    •Experience with programming and code development in Python or R.
    •Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (the working language of the research group).
    •The ability to work independently and with others with various scientific and technological backgrounds.
