Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
In the CREST project, the data synthesis and fusion analysis research group is developing a series of numerical simulation models as "digital twins" that express the production and outflow of seagrass and macroalgae from coastal areas, and their transport and sequestration into the deep sea. These models use numerical ocean simulation model products to generate current state estimates and future projections of blue carbon sequestration by seagrass and macroalgal beds around Japan's coasts, integrating with a variety of in-situ observations of seagrass and macroalgae. In addition, as part of the JST FOREST Program, we are conducting a study that collects data from fish finders to gather information on fish distribution to achieve high-precision fishing ground forecasting and to elucidate fish migratory ecology. Our group is soliciting applications for a staff member who will engage in these research and development subjects:

(1) Development of the components of a digital twin for blue carbon sequestration by seagrass and macroalgal beds around Japan's coasts
(2) Research and development of current-state estimates and projection of future blue carbon sequestration by seagrass and macroalgal beds around Japan's coasts using a digital twin
(3) Development of machine learning to estimate fish species and biomass based on fish-finder echo images and fish school migration models.
