Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF), supported by the U.S. and Japanese governments, conducts research and studies for peaceful purposes on the medical effects of radiation and associated diseases in humans and contributes to the maintenance of the health and welfare of atomic bomb survivors and to the enhancement of the health and welfare of all humankind. The Department of Molecular Biosciences (MBS) conducts research on radiation-related diseases (cancer and noncancer) and genetic effects of radiation exposure using samples provided by A-bomb survivors. With the recent advances in genome science, the Department of MBS at RERF seeks a junior to mid-career level scientist with strong bioinformatics skills to analyze the relationship between the genomes of A-bomb survivors and radiation exposure effects.
Work content and job description
Participate in research projects to assess the relationship between the genomes of A-bomb survivors and their radiation exposure on the development of various diseases, as well as survival time after the exposure. In addition, develop new technologies for future genomic analysis using stored survivor samples, including methods to detect radiation-associated somatic mutations. Promote genome research related to radiation exposure in collaboration with domestic and international research institutions. Under the RERF study mission, the applicant can also conduct new research in the area of his/her expertise and interest, including relevant experimental studies of radiation effects using animal or in vitro models.
