    Full-time Tenured Position (Lecturer or Associate Professor) in Applied Linguistics, English Education or Related Field

  • Work content and job description

    The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching five or more classes per week, including courses such as Communication Skills for Academic Purposes I/II, Academic Presentation Skills, Materials Development, Global Englishes, and Seminar. In addition to research and teaching, the candidate will also be expected to contribute to departmental, faculty, and university administrative duties, including entrance examination-related work and participation on various committees.

    Annual Salary : 8 million yen ~ 10 million yen

    Salary: In accordance with the university’s salary regulations. The following are model monthly salaries; actual annual salary will vary depending on professional experience, duties, number of dependents, etc.
    • Associate Professor (age 40): ¥526,300/month
    • Full-time Lecturer (age 30): ¥383,500/month

    Overtime and other explanations : (1) Working Hours: Discretionary Labor System for Professional Work applies (Deemed working hours: 6 hours and 20 minutes/day)
    The above 09:00-19:00 working hours are a full-day teaching schedule, incl. all 5 class periods. Working hours will vary depending on each individual instructor's schedule.
    (2) Teaching Assignment: Minimum of 5 classes (koma) per week (additional class allowance provided)

Qualifications

  • Education and Degree Requirements

    Ph.D. / Doctor

    PhD in applied linguistics or the equivalent from an accredited institution

  • Work experience

    (1) Area of Specialization: Applied linguistics (such as Global Englishes, Materials Development), English language education, and related areas of study
    (2) Research and educational experience at the university level or equivalent
    (3) The candidate should be able to understand the educational philosophy of the faculty and department, and to actively contribute to departmental, faculty, and university administrative responsibilities, including entrance examination duties and committee work.
    (4) It is desirable that the candidate be able to teach courses and supervise graduate students in the Graduate Program.
    (5) High level of English language proficiency
    (6) Sufficient ability to perform assigned duties in Japanese

Selection / Notification of result

    Primary selection : Document screening

    Secondary selection:
    Interview conducted in both Japanese and English. Presentation of a 20-minute teaching demonstration in English. The interviews are scheduled to be held in early to mid-September.

    Please note that travel and accommodation expenses for the interview will be borne by the applicant.
    Additional documents may be requested during the selection process.
