Job description
Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The Tokai National Higher Education and Research System (THERS)—a federation of Nagoya University and Gifu University—aims to become one of the world’s premier research universities and to establish nationally and internationally recognized centers of excellence in its areas of strength. As part of this vision, the two universities jointly founded the Institute for Glyco-core Research (iGCORE), which since its launch in 2021 has advanced cutting-edge life-science research that fuses glyco-omics with mathematical and computational analytics.
Within the current fiscal year, iGCORE will create a new “Big-Data & AI Platform Division” (tentative name). We are therefore recruiting a research-oriented IT Coordinator who will serve as the inaugural head of this division. After taking up the post, you will inherit operation of iGCORE’s first-generation CPU–GPU hybrid HPC cluster and will oversee the planning, deployment, operation, and maintenance of the second-generation system now under design. Your mandate is to put in place an IT-management framework that combines scalability, high availability, and robust information security, enabling the secure, high-speed processing of petascale glyco-related life-science data and associated clinical information while driving the institute’s digital transformation.
In parallel, you will develop analytical technologies that integrate glyco-omics with genomic, proteomic, and other multi-omics data by harnessing generative AI and deep-learning approaches, and you will use this platform to lead applied research in AI-driven drug discovery and biomarker identification. Acting as a hub that links biology, medicine, information science, and industry, you will design collaborative projects, secure large-scale external funding in partnership with domestic and international research institutions and companies, and foster the next generation of researchers through workshops and seminars for graduate students and early-career scientists.
Work content and job description
(Right after being hired)
1.Lead the development and applied research of glycan × multi-omics integration and AI-driven drug-discovery algorithms, pursuing publication, patenting, and the acquisition of external funding.
2.Design transdisciplinary projects and serve as a hub that brings together researchers from biology, medicine, information science, and industry to launch collaborative studies.
3.Oversee the institute’s HPC, storage, and network infrastructure—including user and security administration, OS/middleware upgrades, incident response, backup/DR design, and performance tuning—and take a leading role in the Phase-2 hybrid HPC renewal team that will progressively augment the existing CPU cluster with additional GPU nodes.
4.Promote international collaboration by spearheading joint research, data-sharing initiatives, and participation in global consortia with overseas institutions and companies
5.Manage the new division and cultivate talent as its head, recruiting and training staff while providing technical guidance and seminars for graduate students and early-career researchers.
The duties described in item 3 will be handled by the staff of the Institute and the staff in charge of information on campus, and will be in charge of outsourcing to an external contractor as necessary.
