Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Mission of ISEE and Division for Meteorological and Atmospheric Research: The Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research (ISEE)1, Nagoya University, conducts studies to elucidate the mechanisms and interactions of various phenomena in the holistic Earth, Sun, and Universe system. The mission of ISEE is to contribute to solutions for global environmental problems facing humankind and to the progress of human society spreading into space through the integration of space science and earth science. ISEE plays a unique role in linking these disciplines as one of Japan's International Joint Usage / Research Centers2 and promotes a wide variety of collaborative research. To realize this mission, ISEE has organized seven research divisions, three research centers, and two offices. The Division for Meteorological and Atmospheric Research*3 conducts broad scientific researches on the atmosphere, which is deeply involved in global environmental issues, through the following two different approaches: one is physical and chemical approach based on spectroscopic remote sensing, in-situ observations, chemical analysis, and so on, and the other is meteorological approach based on state-of-art radars, numerical model simulations, and satellite data analysis.

The successful candidate for this position will develop research and education on material cycle of trace gases and aerosols from a scientific perspective based on physics and chemistry, or on atmospheric dynamics in terms of material cycle, as a professor of the division for Meteorological and Atmospheric Research. We expect the candidate to implement the research on physical and chemical processes in the troposphere to mesosphere based on groundbased/satellite remote sensing or model simulations in collaboration with the current members in the division, and to promote interdisciplinary studies with a comprehensive view covering from the surface to space with researchers in ISEE. In addition, the candidate is expected to be actively involved in education as a member of Department of Physics, the Graduate School of Science, Nagoya University, and to work for joint research with domestic and international researchers, fully understanding the ISEE's mission as a Joint Usage/Research Center. As a faculty member of ISEE, the successful candidate will contribute to the management and administration of ISEE and Nagoya university.
