Work content and job description
The successful candidate will work with the English Documentation Support Team at the International Research Frontiers Initiative and the International Affairs Division of the Research Promotion Department.
Main duties will involve:
- Proofreading and editing of the Institute's English content (internal documents, web pages, notices, etc.)
- Final check by a team of translators and administrative staff
- Support for international students/researchers, support for on-campus events, etc.
- Other duties of the International Research Frontiers Initiative and International Affairs Division

Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The Marine Science Section manages the OIST Marine Science Station and supports marine fieldwork related to OIST marine research. OIST Marine Science Station possess state of the art equipment for studying the rich marine fauna of Okinawa: Outdoor and indoor aquariums including mesocosms for carrying out ecological studies, a unique heat wave simulator, flumes, and associated laboratory facilities for basic molecular and cellular biology work. It also supports fieldwork, hosting diving equipment and various scientific instruments for oceanographic studies.
Position summary:
The Section Leader of the Marine Science Section will lead all aspects of the technical and administrative efforts necessary to support marine research conducted at OIST. The section leader will be primarily responsible to manage the Marine Science Section and to actively engage the OIST research community and the marine research support community both domestically and internationally.
The successful candidate will leverage their demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, management, and administration to facilitate advanced research and education activities.

Responsibilities:

1.Management of the OIST Marine Station
2.Supporting marine fieldwork in collaboration with the OIST Diving Safety Officer
3.Advice to the researchers for the collection and maintenance of marine organisms
4.Budget planning and execution
5.Oversee safety within the section, including the creation of protocols for emergency situations such as typhoons.
6.Manage and supervise members of the Marine Science Section
7.Overseeing the stable supply of seawater to the OIST campus
8.Maintenance of excellent records regarding research support, equipment maintenance and safety
9.In collaboration with Buildings and Facilities Management and vendors, arrange maintenance of all relevant equipment and facilities to ensure continuous operation.

The OIST Core Facilities contribute to research and education by providing excellent common research facilities and research support services for the researchers and students at OIST. The Environmental Science and Informatics Section is one of the technical sections within the Core Facilities. It maintains a network of field sites around Okinawa prefecture, supports terrestrial fieldwork related to OIST environmental and ecological research and offers support in the analysis of environmental and ecological data gathered through various means.
