Background of the recruitment and description of the project
We recruit a Project Researcher(II) or a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on Moonshot Goal 8 R&D Project ”Typhoon Control Research Aiming for a Safe and Prosperous Society” Theme "Diagnosis of the impacts of typhoons on large-scale environment using numerical simulation data (FY2022-2026 PI: Tomoe Nasuno)", funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency(JST).
Work content and job description
We aim to evaluate the impact of changes in typhoon strength on the surrounding environment and changes in typhoon strength and other properties under global warming using a high-resolution non-hydrostatic global atmospheric model (NICAM). The Project Researcher/Postdoctoral Researcher is engaged in conducting numerical simulations using NICAM and analyzing typhoon simulation data:
(1) Conducting ensemble sensitivity experiments for specific typhoon cases using NICAM and evaluating the impact on the typhoon structure and surrounding fields. Quantitative analysis focuses on the structural changes of typhoons due to cloud microphysical processes and changes in the large-scale fields caused by changes in the typhoon's strength.
(2) Conducting numerical experiments assuming global warming and performing statistical analysis of typhoon intensity in the numerical experiments.
